Clover fee record · PW-MF/CLOVER

Clover fees (2026): what you really pay on card processing.

The short answer

Bought directly from Clover/Fiserv, rates run about 2.3–2.6% + 10¢ card-present and 3.5% + 10¢ keyed, as read June 2026. But Clover hardware is resold by thousands of banks and ISOs, and the rate you’re actually signed to can be far higher — some third-party analyses report effective rates of 4–5%.

Direct-from-Clover/Fiserv rates; the rate you are actually signed to depends on your reseller. US, as read June 24, 2026. Pricing model: Flat-rate direct — but resold by thousands of banks/ISOs at widely varying rates. These are list rates — verify against your own statement.

These are published rates, recorded and dated — not "what others actually pay" (that comes only from verified invoices, of which we hold none yet). The number that tells you whether you're overpaying is your processor markup above interchange.

The forensic read

What the headline rate hides

Clover · the mechanism

The single biggest variable is the reseller markup. Because Clover is an open reseller channel, the published direct rate is frequently not what a merchant signs — resold tiered pricing (qualified / mid / non-qualified) lets the seller move transactions into pricier buckets, which some third-party analyses report pushing effective rates toward 4–5%. Hardware lock-in and 36-month contracts with early-termination fees add to the switching cost.

The benchmark · a fair markup

For contrast, a fair small-business processor markup is roughly 0.25%–0.50% (25–50 bps) plus about 5–10¢ per transaction above interchange, fully disclosed on the statement. It is a range with a disclosure rule, not a universal threshold — markup fairly varies by industry risk, volume, and card-present vs. online mix. What is not transparent is a rate that hides the interchange/markup split.

Common questions

Clover fees — questions

Why is my Clover rate higher than the advertised price?

Because Clover hardware is sold through thousands of independent resellers (banks and ISOs), each setting its own rate, monthly fee, and contract. The ~2.3–2.6% direct rate is real, but resold tiered pricing can push your effective rate higher — some third-party analyses report 4–5% — by moving transactions into higher-cost buckets. Your statement’s effective rate is the only number that tells you what you actually pay.

Are Clover’s fees negotiable?

The processing markup and contract terms are often negotiable — but with whom matters: you negotiate with your specific reseller, not Clover itself. Equipment leases and long contracts with early-termination fees are the lock-in to watch. Isolate your markup above interchange before you negotiate.
